Try before you buy scrubbers

Try before you buy scrubbers

‘Try-before-you-buy’ is an excellent maxim, but it’s not always possible when dealing with capital equipment. Begg Cousland, world famous in the field of pollution control, has however constructed portable test scrubber units, equipped with Halifax fans, that can be installed on site and used to prove the effectiveness of their Becoflex rotary scrubbing technology.

Begg Cousland specialises in the field of Wet Gas Filtration, whereby particulates, moisture and odours are removed from the exhaust gases of a wide variety of industrial processes, including the chemical, pharmaceutical and metals industries, prior to venting to the atmosphere. The Becoflex system utilises a paddle blade fan volute from Halifax Fan, modified to suit the Begg Cousland rotating brush impeller. The brush rotates within the fan casing, irrigated with the desired amount of water or other scrubbing liquor. As the exhaust stream is drawn into the scrubber, particulates impact at high speed with the spinning brush and are washed off to settle in the disengagement pot, and the liquid slurry is then drained off. Where a higher pressure input is required, an induced draft fan, also from Halifax Fan, is fitted to the gas outlet. The cleaned but still wet gas then moves upwards, through a demisting unit to remove any entrained liquid droplets before being exhausted. Removal efficiencies in excess of 98% are achieved with particulate size greater than 3 microns.

  • Begg Cousland chose Halifax Fan for their Becoflex scrubbers because of Halifax’s ability to manufacture bespoke fans which would mate with the special scrubber impeller and, provide them in a wide range of materials to suit the varying characteristics of the chemicals in the exhaust gas.
  • Trial units have been sent as far afield as Brazil, Thailand and Korea, for Begg Cousland and its agents to prove the effectiveness of their scrubber technology to potential clients, and have resulted in valuable export orders.
  • Polypropylene fans and fan casings are sometimes essential to cope with the aggressive nature of the contaminants produced in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and to prolong the life of the plant.
